[Esip-copdess] COPDESS news: Survey about next steps, session at January ESIP, and meeting notes from AGU23

Dear COPDESS cluster members,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing today on behalf of the COPDESS team with some updates and request for response from you all.

Many of you will know that there has been interest in reinvigorating COPDESS to work on the important issues facing the Earth, space, and environmental sciences. We held an in-person meeting at AGU23 in San Francisco; thanks to all who were able to attend for providing your input on what issues COPDESS should take up in the future. As a follow-up to that meeting, I’d like to share a few things.

At AGU23, we collected attendee responses to the question of “what issues should COPDESS take up next?” You can read the lightly-organized responses here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kzTFYMDVDNE2xePoKNTdDYJeMoyWpw3MuEGAdve0auw/edit?usp=sharing>. Now, we’re running an anonymous survey based on these responses to rank the urgency and importance of different issues, to inform what COPDESS works on first. If you have a chance, please take the short survey, linked here,<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=0Awko3RAfkm26Y4WJNltpMap5FBkpsZDkWlnblaOvGVUNVBSUlFTQ1NCMFpDU0YzM1JMTTNIVTQ3Sy4u> and give us your opinion. Your responses are anonymous; we’ll leave the survey open until early February.

We will also be holding a COPDESS session at the virtual January ESIP meeting<https://2024januaryesipmeeting.sched.com/event/1XYQW/fostering-and-sustaining-the-dialog-between-data-repositories-publishers-and-editors-where-is-copdess-heading>, next Thursday, January 25th, from 4 to 5:30 PM ET, and plan to begin monthly COPDESS meetings in February. We will keep you posted on those meetings through this email list.
