Hi Ruth,
Thank you for reading, and keeping up with us…

We are still stirring the pot as we learn more about each type of Data Analytics. We want to add exemplary use cases, etc. (in notes) to hopefully nail it down. It's a work in progress, but there is energy amongst us. I am totally in favor of bringing our work and the work of RDA together. It makes great sense.

Not sure who are 'regulars' in RDA involvement. I peak in, but that does not qualify. We are still at relatively early stages in our definitions (but making progress), thus I don't want to be premature providing information that is not ready (maybe confusing to see definitions change). I hope we can have something in the not too distant future (vague, I know). Somewhat depends on contributions.

We will definitely keep you (RDA) posted.

Thanks again, Steve

Hi Steve,

I haven’t been able to join your telecons - they always seem to conflict with some other meeting that I am required to go to. However, I do keep up with your notes - so thanks for sending them out all the time (I might need to start doing that myself for the preservation telecon).

I am very interested in your developing set of definitions for types of analytics and think that the RDA terminology working group would like to include them - they are trying to standardize data-related terminology across the world and for all disciplines so that folks can start having more immediately meaningful discussions about data interoperability. Towards that end I think adding your definitions to the vocabulary they are developing would be a great contribution by ESIP to RDA and the science community writ broadly.

I don’t know if you or anyone else in your group are involved with RDA at all; but think that those definitions should be shared as they evolve. The RDA group’s home page is at https://rd-alliance.org/group/data-foundation-and-terminology-wg.html and they have a semantic wiki where they are keeping the definitions at http://smw-rda.esc.rzg.mpg.de/index.php/Main_Page

Ruth

PS: I like your plan to publish a review paper on this…!

Hi All,
Thanks for a very interesting telecon. I especially enjoyed our guest speaker, Dr. George Djorgovski, and the following discussion.

Please take a look at the notes (http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Earth_Science_Data_Analytics/2014-10-23_Telecon). Please add, or let me know and I will add, any additional notes you may have.

Thanks again, and have a good weekend, Steve
