Meeting called to order at 7:05pm.

Introductions were made.

PEACH – Lenora Smith
PEACH receives funding from HUD and its mission is to educate the community about the issue of lead exposure and poisoning. They can present to any neighborhood group and even test your home for lead. They can be reached at PeachLead at aol.com.

Granville Nonviolent Action Team – David Krabbe
Butner is 1 of 5 potential sites (Oklahoma, San Antonio (TX), Athens (GA), Mississippi) to house a new facility to study animal diseases that have no vaccines or treatments. This would be within 5 miles of 5 reservoirs. The facility would have airlocks, negative pressure, waste treatment, and other necessary safety measures. You can find more information at www.NoBio.org. Environmental impact analysis and community input are currently ongoing. Preferred sites will be named this spring, and the final site decision will be made in the fall.

2008 CROP Walk – Jenny Shafer
CROP = Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. 75% of the money raised goes to the Church World Services to fight worldwide hunger. 25% stays locally (last year went to 10 local organizations). Last year, they raised $200,000. It will be held March 16th. You can find more information (or contribute online as an individual or group) at www.DurhamCropWalk.org

ComNET – Jay Reinstein
The city is starting to implement handheld devices to enable computerized neighborhood environmental tracking. It will enable documentation of street-level observable conditions. Citizens can be trained in a 2 hr session, and then sent out to document a few blocks at a time in their own neighborhood. Reports and meetings will be held multi-departmentally: Neighborhood Improvement Services, General Services, Public Works, City Manager’s Office. You can contact Jay at 560-4222 x226 if you have questions or would like to be trained. Once conditions are documented, a report will be generated and a service request number will be created for each item. You will be able to call Durham OneCall at any time to get an update on the status of the request.

Updates
Parks and Rec: Open registration for Adult sports is ongoing right now
Treasurer’s report: INC will be sending out a request for $25 per neighborhood for this year’s dues soon.
Substance Abuse Report: Wanda Boone is writing a letter in support of more compliance checks (for underage alcohol purchases) by NC ALE. She asked if INC would be interested in signing the letter in support. Bill Anderson made a motion to add INC to the list of supporting organizations on the letter. David Harris seconded. Motion carried.
Inner-Tier Neighborhood Listings in TMLS: TMLS has committed to making the adjustments, but we haven’t gotten confirmation that it’s done yet
