City of Durham Begins City Hall & Annex Renovations

Locations of Multiple Departments Affected; New Locations Effective
February 4


Durham, N.C. - Renovations to the Durham's City Hall and Annex will
begin next week and residents are asked to take note of new, temporary
locations for multiple City departments before arriving at City Hall.

 

As promised to City of Durham citizens during the 2005 bond referendum,
the City is using voter-approved funds to complete much-needed repairs
and renovations to City Hall, resulting in an improved building to more
effectively serve residents, visitors and staff.  

 

During Phase I of the renovation process, which is scheduled to begin
Monday, February 4 and last approximately four months, the following
departments will have new locations, either inside City Hall or off-site
at the Qualex Building, located at 3404 North Duke Street, Durham.  The
Qualex Building has on-site parking and is also accessible via Durham
Area Transit Authority's (DATA) Route 4.

 

New Department Locations in City Hall

*         Customer Billing & Services Division with the Department of
Water Management is moving from the 1st floor of City Hall to the 3rd
floor of City Hall.  This department's contact information is (919)

*         Revenue Collection Division (Cashiers) with the Department of
Finance is moving from the 1st floor of City Hall to the 3rd floor of
City Hall.  This division's contact information is (919) 560-4851

the same.

 

*         Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) with the Department of
Finance is moving from the City Hall Annex to the 4th floor of City
Hall.  This division's contact information is (919) 560-1350 (phone) and

*         Members Credit Union is moving from the City Hall Annex to the
3rd floor of City Hall.  The credit union's contact information is (919)

New Department Locations at Qualex (3404 North Duke Street)

*         Department of Human Resources, with the exception of the
Employee Training & Development Division at 400 Cleveland Street, is
moving from the 1st floor of City Hall to Qualex.  This department's

*         Department of Audit Services is moving from the 1st floor of
City Hall to Qualex.  This department's contact information is (919)

*         Department of Human Relations is moving from the 1st floor of
City Hall to Qualex.  This department's contact information is (919)

*         Stormwater Services Quality Division with the Department of
Public Works is moving from the City Hall Annex to Qualex.  This

*         Treasury Management Division with the Department of Finance is
moving from the City Hall Annex to Qualex.  This division's contact

*         Financial Reporting Team in the Accounting Services Division
with the Department of Finance is moving from the 4th floor of City Hall

Access to the lobby of City Hall, Council Chambers and the Council
Committee Room will remain open to the public throughout the renovation
project.  Persons with disabilities who visit City Hall should continue
to use the front entrance of City Hall.  A representative from Durham
One Call will also remain in the lobby to assist residents and visitors.

 

During the renovation process, parking on City Hall Plaza will be
extremely limited.  Residents and visitors are asked to park at the
Chapel Hill Street Garage and Lot, which is located across from City
Hall and the U.S. Post Office.  If parking is not available in either
the garage or lot, Central Parking will direct motorists to the closest
garages, lots and on-street parking to accommodate their parking needs.

 

In addition to multiple departments moving temporarily for the
renovation process, two City departments have moved permanently into the
Venable Business Center.  The City's Office of Economic and Workforce
Development (OEWD) and the City's Office of Equal Opportunity and Equity
Assurance (EO/EA) have permanently moved to 302 East Pettigrew Street,
Durham.  The OEWD is now located in Suite 190 and EO/EA is now located
in Suite 180. The phone and fax numbers for both departments will remain
the same with the OEWD at (919) 560-4965 (phone) and (919) 560-4986
(fax) and EO/EA at (919) 560-4180 (phone) and (919) 560-4513 (fax).
Employee e-mail addresses for both departments will also remain the
same.
