OpRAH Show Friday, APRIL 4th
on Puppy Mills!
The Oprah Winfrey show on Friday will feature Lisa Lings report about an
undercover investigation into puppy mills. Puppy mills are commercial
breeding facilities with often hundreds of dogs in cages in very poor
conditions receiving very little medical care. They exist all over the
United States to provide puppies to pet stores to satisfy the publics
demand for purebred puppies.
The Animal Protection Society of Durham rescued 30 dogs and puppies out of
900 that were seized by the Humane Society of the United States in November
in Hillsville, Virginia. We provided medical treatment and cared for these
dogs and found most of them wonderful forever homes. One dog, Roger, a Shih
Tzu, is still available for adoption.
If you would like more information about the puppy mill industry and how it
affects local animal shelters, or to do a follow-up story on the Virginia
puppy mills dogs that the APS of Durham rescued, please contact us.
