Celebrate Watts-Hillandale's First Century

12th annual home tour
Join Preservation Durham members and friends on
the 12th Annual Old Durham Tour of Watts
Hospital-Hillandale Neighborhood in West Durham.
Open from 10:00am-6:00pm May 3, the tour includes
thirteen homes and the North Carolina School of
Science and Math, originally built as Watts Hospital (left).
A highlight of the tour is the 2008 Durham
Council of Garden Clubs' flower show. Several
special flower arrangements will be on display in six of the tour houses.
Tourgoers can enjoy the tour at their own pace,
exploring the tree-shaded streets that surround
Watts Hospital. Tour tickets include admission to
all the homes on the tour a well as the old
hospital buildings. Each building on the tour
will be staffed by friendly and well-informed
docents to make the tour interesting and enjoyable.
Meet tour homeowners, patrons, and sponsors at
the Tour Patrons' Party on April 26. Hear stories
of the history of Watts-Hillandale from long-time
residents and Durham historians at the free
Pre-Tour Roundtable presentation on April 29.
Advance ticket buyers will be able to exchange
their tickets for a tour guidebook and map at the
NC School of Science and Math or at 2321 West
Club Blvd. (at the corner of Alabama Street).
Tickets will also be sold at these locations on the day of the tour for $25.
Advance tickets can be purchased for $20 from the
Preservation Durham office at 200 N. Mangum
Street or charge with your Visa or Mastercard by
phone at (919)-682-3036. There is a $1.00 service
fee on mail orders. Tickets are also available at:

Home Tour Patrons' Party ~ April 26
Join Preservation Durham members and friends to
celebrate the tour from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday,
April 26. The gala evening at a historic
residence in the Watts Hospital-Hillandale
Neighborhood will honor the homeowners, sponsors,
and volunteers who make the tour possible!
Tickets are $65 and include admission to the tour
on Saturday, May 3. To receive an invitation to

Pre-Tour Roundtable ~ April 29
Learn about the history of the Watts-Hillandale
Neighborhood as long-time residents and Durham
historians share their stories. The program
begins at 7:00pm at the North Carolina School of
Science and Math (NCSSM) at 1219 Broad St. The
NCSSM is the site of the former Watts Hospital.
