What country allows 16-year-olds to vote? Who was Septima Clark? As a
1st grader, what did Barack Obama want to be when he grew up? Who are the
historical heroes who made it possible for YOU to vote?
Find out the answers to these questions and more at the Kids Voting
Durham/ Durham Cooperative Extension reception for Central Park School for
Childrens Voting Museum exhibit on Tuesday, April 29 from 2:30-4:30 PM.
The exhibit contains profiles of voting heroes, an atlas of voting around
the world, oral histories of Durhams voters, and much more that educates
and inspires adults and young people about our role as citizens. You can
also meet the students of Belle Boggs 5th grade class from Central Park
School who created this amazing work, have them record an oral history of
your voting memories, and listen to an original rap song about civic
responsibility. These engaging, thoughtful students will help parents,
students, and Durham citizens even better appreciate the extraordinary
rights and responsibilities we have as democratic citizens and will get
you geared up for May 6ths election!
Even if you cant attend the Tuesday reception, you can visit the exhibit
Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM 5:00 PM through May 6 at the Durham
Cooperative Extension.

About Kids Voting Durham:
Kids Voting Durham, a program of the Durham County Cooperative Extension,
helps our communitys young people to understand and believe in the power
they can have as active citizens and informed voters. Kids Voting Durham
provides high-quality civics lesson plans and support to educators. In
addition to classroom activities, Kids Voting Durham enables youth to
explore the right to vote, democracy, and active citizenship through
community activities, youth trainings, and family outreach.
The fourteen students of Belle Boggs 5th Grade class spent the entire last
quarter studying voting, and items and activities in this exhibit were
part of the work they did for that study. Throughout their study, they
utilized Kids Voting lessons, materials, and support.
