2008 Golden Leaf Award Winners Honored at Last Night's Ceremony

Community Appearance Awards Recognized Best Visual Contributions to
Durham

Durham, N.C. - Last night, 18 winners of the 2008 Golden Leaf Awards
were honored for the best visual contributions to the Durham community.

The goal of the sixth annual Golden Leaf Awards Ceremony, co-sponsored
by the Durham City/County Appearance Commission and Keep Durham
Beautiful, Inc., is to encourage better designed and better maintained
properties in Durham. According to Nakira Carter, chairwoman of the
Golden Leaf Awards Committee, several of this year's winners followed a
national trend and all of them demonstrated their understanding of the
important role that appearance plays in improving the quality of life in
Durham. "It was exciting to see many of our winners follow the national
trend of 'green' building and development practices," Carter said. "Our
winners truly helped to make Durham a more special place through their
personal commitments to beautifying their properties. We hope they
serve as an inspiration to other Durham residents and property owners."

Over 70 entries were received this year in the following categories:
Community Properties, Commercial Properties, Residential Properties,
