What: Trains, Trolleys and Cars: How 
Transportation Affected Durham’s Neighborhoods

Who: Panelists will be John Schelp of Old West 
Durham, Steve Mancuso of DATA and Tony Reevy of 
the UNC School of the Environment. They will 
trace the history of transportation in Durham 
County, from the first footpaths and trading 
paths that crossed the county to today’s 
interstates and thoroughfares. And they will show 
how changing modes of transportation have 
affected the formation of neighborhoods over the 
years. Perhaps they will even take a peek at the 
future and make a few predictions about what’s in 
store for our neighborhoods, old and new!
