It would be my hope that people living, managing and/or serving on a board of directors for a homeowners association educate themselves on this proposed legislation and take action to support it or supply ample and reasonable justifications for modifications to it to fit better their (and the industry's) future needs.
I would also like to encourage those who still have questions or may not be able to attend these public hearings to consider attending the Law Day coming up next month.

I helped draft one of the bills in question as a part of my official duties. It would require licensing of professional homeowner association managers and establish minimum standards for the handling of HOA money. Under these circumstances, it would be impossible for me to speak for INC. The bill is supported by my client, the NC Real Estate Commission and the principal trade organization of home owner association professionals, the CAI. This is their “Call to Action” below.
While we can’t get an INC position on the bill before the 2d, it is something we should take up. I will put the bill on our agenda and hand the gavel to our VP.

Call to Action
Dear Community Leader
The House of Representatives in North Carolina has appointed a select committee to study homeowner's associations and make recommendations for future legislation. There is a single public hearing scheduled for Tuesday February 2 at 2 PM. In general, hearings like these tend to draw an unhappy minority to speak out. We are asking that you consider participating if you have an alternate balance to bring to the attention of the committee.
Please consider participating if protecting the rights of your association is important to you and your neighbors. Please read full information by clicking HERE. Please note that to be able to speak at the hearing, you must follow the instructions on being put on the agenda. Feel free to share this information as appropriate.
