Durham Begins Survey Phase of Automated Meter Reading Project

Contractor Starts Field Survey and GPS Location of Water Meters This
Week

DURHAM, N.C. - Beginning this week, Durham residents may see the City of
Durham's contractor on neighborhood streets as Durham prepares for its
Automated Meter Reading (AMR) project.

Triangle Surveyors will begin preliminary field work this week on the
survey and GPS locations of the City's water meters in preparation for
the AMR project. Crews will use global positioning to accurately locate
each meter in the City's system, with initial activities beginning north
of Interstate 85 and moving south into the city limits.

Employees of Triangle Surveyors will be driving company trucks with
appropriate signage and crew members will be wearing company
uniforms/shirts and have company identification. This process is
starting a few weeks ahead of the actual meter replacement/installation
process, which will be handled by Vanguard Utility Services, the main
contractor for the AMR installation project.

The City's Department of Water Management will provide updates on the
project as the specific dates and areas for meter replacements are
identified in the coming weeks. For additional information about the
AMR project, contact Vicki Westbrook, deputy director of the City's
Department of Water Management, at (919) 560-4381, ext. 35266 or via
e-mail at Vicki.Westbrook at durhamnc.gov.
