Durham Paper Shredding, E-Waste and Christmas Tree Recycling Event Saturday
Free, Convenient Event Open to All Durham Residents and Businesses
What: Paper Shredding, E-Waste and Christmas Tree Recycling Event
Who: City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department, Sonoco Recycling, Shimar Recycling, and Synergy Recycling
When: Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Old K-Mart Parking Lot at Durham Plaza Shopping Center

Fast Facts:
· The event will accept nearly all electronic devices with a cord, including:
§ Computers, laptops, keyboards, mouse, printers, monitors, speakers, copiers, scanners, circuit boards, hard drives, computer parts, etc.
§ Televisions, stereo equipment, tape players, receivers, amplifiers, record players, etc.
§ Kitchen electronics, such as microwaves, mixers, blenders, choppers, etc.
§ Telephones, cell phones, and fax machines
§ Hair dryers, curling irons, alarm clocks, and vacuum cleaners
§ Power tools, cordless tools, etc.
§ Electronic toys, such as keyboards and video game systems
· Free confidential paper shredding will also be provided and shredding guidelines are as follows:
§ Paper accepted for shredding may contain paper clips and staples
§ Hanging file folders will not be accepted
§ Residents are welcome to wait while their paper is being shredded
· Christmas trees will also be accepted at this event. Trees taller than six feet should be cut in half. Residents should also remove all decorations, including tinsel, lights, garland, and ornaments, as well as stands, nails, and other hardware.
· This event will not accept large appliances, refrigerators, air conditioners, or anything with Freon and is open to both Durham residents and businesses.
· Staff will be on hand to unload all of the old electronics and papers brought to the event.
· Durham residents who can't make this event can still safely and conveniently recycle their old electronics at the City's Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The facility, located at 1900 E. Club Blvd., is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
