There are a number of reasons why I offer suggestions about what activities
are available in Durham.* I like to promote and desire that people take
advantage of opportunities that are in our backyard. I want people to take
breaks, especially workaholics. I strongly believe that taking time off from
work helps to prevent burn out and makes people even more productive. I
think that going to events with family and friends can serve as alternatives
to gift buying.

the lives of children at the St. Joseph¹s Family of orphanages in
Port-au-Prince and Jacmel. If you¹re able to donate any of the list below,
please drop them off at ManBites Dog.

thing-a-mabobs.
--also children's athletic shoes, crocs, and socks
--school supplies especially primary school lined writing pads

PLEASE NO BULK CLOTHES, TOWELS, SHEETS, ETC.

STROKE/BOOK

Little Green Pig brings you its latest world premiere by David Turkel, one
of America¹s most exciting underground playwrights.... Inspired by Yukio
Mishima¹s modern adaptations of classic Noh dramas, David Turkel¹s
STROKE/ BOOK tell two stories about the intertwined worlds of the living and
the dead. ³a night of linked one-acts filled with power and mystery.²

In STROKE, a scheming Victorian family forces a young girl to confront her
burgeoning womanhood through a hasty courtship. Over the course of a single
evening, she reunites with her dead twin brother and discovers a terrifying
truth about the place she inhabits.

BOOK, set in contemporary America, begins with a teenager soliciting a
prostitute with money he earned from babysitting her mentally challenged
son. This proposition launches a pattern of shame and betrayal that pursues
the boy for decades through war and recovery, fame and anonymity, marriage
and divorce, and, possibly, future generations.

American Idealist: the Story of Sargent Shriver / A Film by Bruce Orenstein

Peace Corps, VISTA, Community Action, Head Start, Legal Services for the
Poor, Youth Corps, Job Corps, and more. Sargent Shriver invented a string of
social initiatives that shaped an era and dared millions of young Americans
to live out their ideals. American Idealist brings Shriver's story to life
in a powerful 90-minute depiction of practical activism, and it offers a
hopeful vision of what this nation could be and could do, based on the
experience of what it once did when pushed by the civil rights movement and
guided by the War on Poverty.

The evening will include an Introduction by Bruce Orenstein, Artist in
Residence at the Center for Documentary Studies, who is the writer,
director, and producer of the film.

The screening is free and open to the general public.
