Durham Hosts Youth Job Fair & Career Expo March 9
Employment Opportunities Available for Ages 14-21; Free Booth Space
Still Available for Interested Employers until March 8
What: Mayor's Annual Summer Youth Work Program Job Fair &
Career Expo
Who: Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell and the City of Durham's
Office on Youth
When: Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Fast Facts
* The Mayor's Summer Youth Work Program offers Durham youth ages
14 to 21 the opportunity to gain work experience and develop skills
while connecting with City and County governments and local employers.
* Approximately 300 summer employment opportunities will be
available this year. Participants will begin work on Monday, June 13 and
work until Friday, August 12.
* Potential youth applicants may visit the City's website at
www.DurhamNC.gov/mayor/youth_program.cfm to download an application as
well as review the job listings and criteria needed to ensure
eligibility for each position. There will also be an interview process.
* Some of the partnering public organizations and private-sector
companies with job opportunities are the City's Office of Economic and
Workforce Development, Durham Parks & Recreation, Neighborhood
Improvement Services Department, General Services Department, and the
Durham Fire Department. Durham County Government, Durham County's Social
Services Department, Chic-Fil-A at Hillsborough Road, Food Lion, and
Youth Empowered for Success are also hiring at this event. Other
partners include Capitol Broadcasting Company and the Historic American
Tobacco Campus, Durham Technical Community College, and North Carolina
Central University.
* The Mayor's Summer Youth Work Program is still in need of
employers interested in hiring youth for the summer. Employers at the
Job Fair & Career Expo will have an opportunity to interview interested
youth for job opportunities within their organizations, including
positions that are for the summer, year-round, full time, and part time.
Employers receive free booth space at the event and must reserve their
spot by Tuesday, March 8.
* Businesses interested in hiring youth for summer employment by
participating in the Mayor's Summer Youth Work Program or in reserving a
booth at Wednesday's Job Fair should contact Kim Moss, assistant youth
services coordinator with the City's Office on Youth, at (919) 354-2730,
ext.11103 or via e-mail at Kim.Moss at DurhamNC.gov.
