This book is meant to show off some of Durham’s interesting places and stories. The underlying goal is to demonstrate Durham’s transition from a lonely stop along the Old Indian Trading Path to a successful and thriving tobacco mecca to its re-establishment after the loss of the tobacco and textile industries. Through all of this, despite the economic recession, Durham has emerged as a leader in the grassroots economy and is one of the United States’ top cities in which to live.
-John Zager, author
"I’ve written about and photographed the architecture and history of Durham for many years out of a deep love for Durham’s buildings – John’s photography does the beauty of those buildings great justice."
--Dr. Gary Kueber, Author, Endangered Durham
"Zager’s images are stunning. They capture the very spirit of Durham’s lovable old neighborhoods."
--John Schelp, Old West Durham
