Crime Report Offers Mixed Snapshot of Crime in Durham

The Police Department's second quarter crime report is offering mixed
news on violent and property crimes in Durham. Overall, the numbers show
a 4 percent decrease in total Part 1 violent and property crimes during
the first six months of this year. That number is compared to the same
period in 2010. Violent crime is up 2 percent and property crime is down
5 percent. Chief Jose Lopez, Sr. discusses those numbers and why they
are mixed on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

Updated Stormwater Requirements for New Development Under Review by
State

The City's proposed changes to the stormwater requirements for new
development are now being reviewed by the N.C. Department of Environment
and Natural Resources (NCDENR). The changes to the Stormwater
Performance Standards for Development will address new development
requirements included in the Jordan and Falls Lake rules. If the new
requirements are approved by NCDENR, they will go into effect by July
2012. Civil Engineer Sandra Wilbur discusses what changes have been made
and how they will affect new development on the upcoming episode of
"City Hall This Week."

Water Customers Urged to Use Water Wisely

In response to this summer's moderate drought conditions in Durham,
water customers are being urged to use water wisely. The City's water
demand has continued to rise as temperatures have risen, and the
available water supply will continue to decline if Durham continues to
receive low amounts of rain. For water saving tips and more information
on Durham's irrigation schedule, visit www.DurhamSavesWater.org.

Other interviews featured on upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week":

* City-County Sustainability Manager Tobin Freid - Explains how
the City is helping hundreds of homeowners save money and make their
homes more energy efficient.

* Public Works Director Marvin Williams - Speaks out about his
new job with the City and his goals for the department.

* City Staff - Explain how Durham's new strategic plan
