Early Voting to Begin in Durham County Tomorrow

Durham County Board of Elections is gearing up its workers and machines for One Stop No Excuse Absentee Voting which begins tomorrow, October 20, 2011, at 9 a.m. Early voting ends Saturday, November 5 at 1p.m. Election Day 2011 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8. One Stop No Excuse Absentee Voting will be held at three locations in Durham including:
Board of Elections Office
706 W. Corporation Street
North Regional Library
221 Milton Road
South Regional Library
4505 S. Alston Avenue All locations are open during the following hours of operation:
October 20-22
9a.m.-5p.m.
October 24-29
9a.m.-5p.m.
October 31-November 4
9a.m.-5p.m.
November 5
9a.m.-1p.m. All early voting locations are closed on Sundays. Early voters and Election Day voters will cast their ballots in a Municipal Election for the City of Durham Mayor and Durham City Council. Ballots will also be cast for a sales and use tax referenda. The following Referenda will be on all Durham County ballots: County Sales and Use Tax - Local sales and use tax at the rate of one-quarter percent (0.25%) in addition to all other State and local sales and use taxes. County Public Transportation Sales and Use Tax - One-half percent (1/2%) local sales and use taxes, in addition to the current local sales and use taxes, to be used only for public transportation systems. The following contest and referenda will be on the ballot for all eligible voters in the proposed Town of Rougemont area: Incorporation of the Town of Rougemont. (Referendum to be voted For or Against) Rougemont Town Council (5 seats) Valid only if Incorporation Referendum passes. County Sales and Use Tax - Local sales and use tax at the rate of one-quarter percent (0.25%) in addition to all other State and local sales and use taxes. County Public Transportation Sales and Use Tax - One-half percent (1/2%) local sales and use taxes, in addition to the current local sales and use taxes, to be used only for public transportation systems. Residents not registered to vote are reminded that same day registration is allowed at any One Stop site. Voters that have moved or change other information can do so at a One Stop site also. Same day registration and updating of information cannot be done on Election Day. For more information about registration, contact the Durham Board of Elections at 919-560-0700.
