New "City Hall This Week" Begins September 7

DPAC Celebrates Another Successful Year; New Grocery Store in the Works
for Northeast Central Durham

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can
also watch this new episode on demand at

City Celebrates Another Successful Year for Durham Performing Arts
Center

The numbers are in and the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is
continuing to be one of the most successful such venues in the
Southeast. The 2012 financial report shows that the City earned $1.8
million for the year ending on June 30. The DPAC generated a net income
of a little more than $4.5 million - 40 percent of which goes to the
City. Interim Community Development Director Reginald Johnson explains
what that money will go toward.

New Grocery Store in the Works for Northeast Central Durham

A new grocery store is on the horizon for the renovated Golden Belt
building - a significant step toward eliminating what many see to be a
food desert in Northeast Central Durham. Because of the importance of
the project to the entire neighborhood, the City Council approved a
$47,000 community development grant in support of the Bull City Urban
Market. The grocery store will feature fresh foods and will be within
walking distance for many of the area's residents. The grant will help
fund necessary renovations that have to be made before the store can
open.

City Increases Operating Fee for Durham Athletic Park

The Durham Bulls will continue to manage the operation of the Durham
Athletic Park, but at a higher price to the City. The Bulls and the City
extended their agreement for the operation of the historic ballpark for
13 months. Since the Bulls was losing money on the agreement, the City
agreed to increase the operating fee by $79,000. The Bulls and the City
will work together over the next year to find ways of eliminating
operating losses for the facility.
