Durham Police Department Releases Crime Report
The 2014 First Quarter Crime Report shows a 13 percent increase in the total number of major property and violent crimes that happened over the past few months. Violent crime increased by 36 percent during the first quarter, and property crime rose by 10 percent. Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. explains what is driving the increases as well as what the department is doing about it.

City Council Receives Comprehensive Housing Strategy Update
Durham's Comprehensive Housing Strategy is helping to address housing needs within the city. The City Council received an update on the progress that is being made during its April 24th work session. Assistant Community Development Director Larry Jarvis explains the strategy and goals.

On-the-Job Training Program Offers Help to Employers
Employers who need to hire now, but don't have the money to train new employees, are getting some help. Funds are available through Durham's On-the-Job Training Program to offset the cost of training new talent. From now until June 30th, the Durham Workforce Development Board has $125,000 to go toward placing adults into jobs at no cost to employers. Employers interested in participating should contact (919) 560-6880.
