Parking Changes on Ninth Street Take Effect on June 1
Parking changes in the Ninth Street area will take effect on June 1. That's when the 45-space parking lot located on the west side of Ninth Street will become paid parking. The rate will be $1 per hour from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parking fees will be collected using a pay station in the lot. On-street parking spaces with a two-hour time limit will be designated in areas along Ninth Street, Green Street, Broad Street and West Main Street.

City Implements New Method of Payment for Public Parking Decks
The City is implementing a new method of payment for public parking decks in downtown Durham. Beginning June 1, people who park in the Centre, Chapel Hill Street, Church Street and the Corcoran Street Decks will begin using the new 3M Parking Lane Pay Stations. The Pay Station will process the fee automatically and display it on a screen. If change is due, it is given in coins and a receipt is issued. The stations will accept coin or paper currency, debit or credit cards, as well as merchant validation vouchers. There will be no charge for parking after 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends.

Latest Pavement and Sidewalk Condition Study Examines Durham's Streets and Sidewalks
The latest Pavement and Sidewalk Condition Study shows that the City currently has 58 miles of streets rated in poor or very poor condition. That is in addition to the 262 miles of streets ranked in good condition, 240 miles in satisfactory condition and 143 miles ranked in fair condition. The study shows that to bring the streets ranked as being in poor or very poor condition up to good condition it would cost $5.6 million annually over the next 10 years.
