Durham One Call Celebrates a Decade of Service

DURHAM, N.C. - More than 2.5 million phone calls, 266,000 service requests, and 105,000 lobby walk-ins. Over the past 10 years, the motto "One Call Does It All" has proven true and now it's time to celebrate.

To honor a decade of service to the Durham community, Durham One Call is hosting several activities next week, allowing residents to participate on social media for a chance to win prizes as well as an opportunity to attend a kick-off celebration in the lobby of City Hall and an Open House to tour the center.

Durham One Call, the City of Durham's centralized contact center, opened its doors in June 2004. Prior to the center opening, residents had to call the correct City department to request service or get information about City services, meetings or events. According to Durham One Call Contact Center Manager Marcelle Brawner, during its 10 years of service, Durham One Call has helped City government become more effective and answerable to taxpayers. "Durham One Call allows the City to better monitor services performed by its departments with improved tracking software, creating a more efficient and accountable government," Brawner said. "Over the last decade our team has reduced the number of non-emergency calls to 911, decreased the volume of incoming calls to departments, increased productivity within the departments, and improved accountability."

Durham One Call's 10th Anniversary Kick-Off event will take place on Monday, June 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the lobby of City Hall with cake and remarks by City officials. Monday will also kick-off the social media contest where visitors to the City's Facebook (http://facebook.com/CityofDurhamNC) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/CityofDurhamNC) pages will have an opportunity to answer trivia questions and win prizes, which are donated gift cards to local businesses. On Thursday, June 19 from 11:30 .a.m. to 1 p.m., residents and City employees are invited to Durham One Call's Open House. Located on the ground level of City Hall, attendees will be able to tour the call center and enjoy light refreshments.

For Brawner, the last decade of service has been a point of pride for the contact center representatives who answer questions and represent the City to millions of callers. "We truly are a one-stop-shop that is convenient for residents and visitors to reach City government. We are proud to be a central point of contact for Durham and we look forward to serving our community another decade through outstanding customer service."
