I thought that INC might be interested in seeing this.
As a member of both the Chamber and INC, it gives me the opportunity to see the good things that each organization does.
This is just another one!

Public Policy Committee Members,

It all started with you….

This past Tuesday, at our monthly Public Policy meeting, you received data from Dr. Kenneth Fernandez of Elon University Polling and our resident expert, Ted Abernathy on the topic of Teacher Pay. You also weighed
in on this conversation by voicing your thoughts as to why you feel it relevant to Durham, the Chamber’s involvement in economic development and our future workforce. With support from your chair, Bill Brian, this conversation rose through the ranks of the
Durham Chamber and to our Executive Committee. Wednesday, our leadership agreed with you and decided to publically take a position. Attached is the Chamber’s official position on Teacher Pay.

If you haven’t seen todays Herald Sun…here’s a link to today’s front page article:

Durham Chamber - Teacher Pay Article.

Again, we say thank you for your leadership and for weighing in on this issue!

Regards,

John

Importance: High

Public Policy Committee,

Your attendance at tomorrow’s Public Policy Meeting is needed! In lieu of recent conversations related to
Teacher Pay and how North Carolina law makers should act
(assuming they will likely act on this issue), the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce has decided to focus our June Public Policy Committee meeting solely on the issue of Teacher Pay and our position specific to this matter.

For our meeting tomorrow,
Dr. Kenneth Fernandez, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Policy Studies and Director of the Elon University Poll will present polling data on the topic of Education (k-12) and their findings on this issue. Additionally,
 we’ve asked Ted Abernathy
to join us and present industry specific data that overlaps with this issue and shows how businesses have responded national, regionally and locally in relation to the effects of Teach Pay.

Again, given our desire to fully discuss this issue, we ask you to join us. Information about Dr. Kenneth Fernandez and the Elon University Poll is below. Additionally, a sample of tomorrow’s agenda has
 been provided.

Agenda:
5 - Welcome and introductions
20 - Dr. Kenneth Fernandez
15 - Ted Abernathy
20 - Debate Issue
Adjourn

As a reminder, the Greater Durham Chamber is located at 300 W. Morgan St. on the 14th floor of the Durham Centre here in downtown Durham.

Please reply to this email if you are planning to join us
tomorrow, June 10th, 8:15-9:15 a.m., here at the Durham Chamber for our monthly Public Policy Committee meeting.

Best Regards,

John

About the Elon university Poll:
The Elon University Poll has received national attention due to data provided on a wide range of topics. Using a computer-assisted telephone interviewing lab on campus, Elon University conducts frequent regional
and statewide surveys on issues of importance to North Carolinians as well as other southern states. Information from these polls is shared with media, citizens and public officials to facilitate informed public policy making through the better understanding
of citizens’ opinions and attitudes. By conducting several public opinion surveys annually, the Elon University Poll is easily recognized as the “poll of record in North Carolina.” Click
here for additional information and to see the range of topics conducted by the Elon University Poll.
