City and County to Hold Community Meeting on Encouraging Affordable Housing Near Light-Rail Lines
Durham City and County are beginning an aggressive campaign to encourage affordable housing near future light-rail lines in Durham. A community meeting will be held at 8 a.m. on August 20, 2014 to kick-off a four-part strategy geared toward preserving and creating affordable housing near the rail lines. The meeting will take place at the Temple Building at 302 West Main St. Admission is free, but registration is requested through the Planning Department at (919) 560-4137.

City's Finance Department Earns National Recognition
The City's Finance Department is earning national recognition. It recently earned this year's prestigious Government Finance Officers Association Award for Excellence in Popular Annual Financial Reporting. Durham is only one of two municipalities in the state to receive this year's award. The Citizens' Financial Report provides an overview of the City's financial condition and summary of its progress during the past year. A copy of the report is available on the City's website at http://www.DurhamNC.gov.

Applicants Needed for Durham Cultural Advisory Board Public Art Committee
The Durham Cultural Advisory Board Public Art Committee is searching for four new members, with terms expiring on June 30, 2016. Members serve in an advisory role to the City on the implementation of Durham's Public Art Policy. Applications can be downloaded from www.DurhamCulture.org<http://www.DurhamCulture.org>. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on August 11.

Downtown Durham Armory Unveils Its New Look
The Downtown Durham Armory has a new look. Recent renovations are complete, and everyone is invited to see the improvements for themselves. The renovation includes refinished hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, fresh paint in much of the building, a new air conditioning system in the kitchen and improved lighting in the lobby. The Armory, located at 212 Foster Street, is open and available for tours from noon - 6 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of every month.
