City-County Planning Department to Hold Community Meeting on Affordable Housing Near Light Rail
Durham City and County are leading the way in encouraging the development of affordable housing near future light rail lines. A community meeting will be held on August 20, 2014 to discuss a four-part strategy to address the goal of making sure affordable housing is preserved and created around future transit stations. The meeting will take place at the Temple Building at 302 West Main St. beginning at 8 a.m. Patrick Young, Assistant Director for Development, Durham City-County Planning Department, explains what the strategy is and why it is needed on the upcoming edition of "City Hall This Week."

Triangle Transit Begins New Bus Route Called the Orange-Durham Express
Triangle Transit's efforts to improve transit service throughout the area now include a new bus route called the Orange-Durham Express. Beginning August 18, the service will connect Hillsborough and northern Orange County residents to Downtown Durham. Painting of Durham's Civil Rights History Mural Underway
The painting of Durham's civil rights history mural is underway. The 2,400 square foot mural is serving as the City's public art pilot program. Artists and volunteers are in the process of painting it on the outside wall of the Convention Center. The mural showcases various moments in the City's civil rights history as remembered and interpreted by community members ranging in age from 15 to 65. Trees Across Durham Program Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
The Trees Across Durham program is marking its one-year anniversary. Over the past year, 1,000 trees have been planted, 1,000 seedlings given away and dozens of residents trained in tree care. Find out what is in store for next year on the upcoming edition of "City Hall This Week."
