City Manager Responds to Human Relations Commission Recommendations
City Manager Tom Bonfield has released a report responding to 44 recommendations from the Human Relations Commission and Civilian Police Review Board. The recommendations address allegations against the Durham Police Department for racial profiling and bias. Bonfield said the Police Department has already began some of the recommendations, while others need require more work from the Police Department before they can start.  One of the more controversial issues was the use of written searches consent forms -which is required for property searches, but will still be at officer discretion when searching vehicles. City Council Approves Economic Incentive Plan for Argos Therapeutics
Argos Therapeutics will receive $924,676 in economic development incentives from the City for its planned expansion to an 112,000 square-foot facility on T.W. Alexander Drive. The facility would house the headquarters, manufacturing and research and development operations for the Durham-based pharmaceutical company. In return for creating more than $40 million in capital investment within three years, the company would receive the incentive from the City over seven-years. The proposed expansion is expected to generate approximately $1.7 million in new tax revenues between 2016 and 2025.

Dozens of Job Seekers Graduate from Telecommunications and Energy Job Training Program
Dozens of job searchers are now better prepared for careers in telecommunications and transportation. A graduation ceremony was held August 7 for 46 job seekers who completed the Telecommunications and Energy Job Training program. The program was made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce and a partnership with Time Warner Cable.

City's Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Facility is Moving
The City's household hazardous waste drop-off facility is moving. It is currently located at 1900 East Club Blvd., which is across from the North Durham Water Reclamation Facility. The drop-off site has to be moved because of the planned expansion of the water reclamation facility. The new site will be located at the City's disposal facility at 2115 East Club Boulevard.

City Hosts Free Teen Entrepreneurship Course
The Office on Youth is partnering with the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a free course on teen entrepreneurship. Participants will learn about goal setting, writing a business plan, product development, advertising and marketing. The course is open to teens ages 13-17 and will be held at the Weaver Street Recreation Center from September 9 through October 16.
