[Durham INC] Parkwood invites neighbors to COP interest meeting April 25th at 10am

Hi folks,

 

Just a reminder about tomorrow's Citizen Observer Patrol interest meeting at
the Parkwood Volunteer Fire Department, 1409 Seaton Road, Durham, 27713.

 

To answer a couple of questions we've received:

 

COP volunteers are not allowed to carry firearms on patrol, even if they
have personal firearms and CCW permits. No firearms. 

 

Any Durham county resident is eligible to participate in the COP program,
not just city of Durham residents.

Hello everyone,

I'm writing to make you aware and invite you to a COP interest meeting on
Saturday April 25th, 10am, at the Parkwood Volunteer Fire Department. 

After a series of crimes in Parkwood and the surrounding communities, we
asked the Durham Police Department to increase the number of officers
patrolling south Durham. DPD's response was that they lacked the manpower to
increase patrols. 

Parkwood and other nearby communities that we're reaching out to are in
Durham Police districts 3 and 4. 

Our goal is to give existing officers more time to actively patrol our area
by reducing the time they spend on non-emergency services. We are working
with the DPD to recruit citizen volunteers for an existing DPD-sponsored
program, the Citizen Observer Patrol (COP). 

You're probably already familiar with the COP program but if not, here's
