City Increases Financial Contribution for Falls Lake Nutrient Management Strategy Goals Re-Examination
The City is increasing its financial contribution to $197,000 for the re-examination of the Falls Lake Nutrient Management Strategy goals. The Upper Neuse River Basin Association is managing the re-examination in order for the Stage II goals to be modified. As they currently stand, the goals would cost stakeholders over $1 billion.

Grant Allows Young People to Gain Real-World Work Experience
Up to 50 of Durham's young people are getting some real-world work experience due to a grant from Durham Public Schools to the Durham YouthWork Internship Program. The $75,000 grant will make summer internships possible for low-income students in Career and Technical Education courses.


Higher ISO Rating for Durham Fire Department Could Mean Lower Insurance Rates
Property insurance premiums may be going down as of August 1 thanks to the Durham Fire Department's achievement of an ISO 2 rating. The rating is used to measure how effective a fire department is in being able to quickly contain fire damage. Most insurance companies use this rating when deciding to offer coverage as well as charges for property insurance.


July 10th Deadline for National Night Out Neighborhood Registration
Neighborhoods interested in participating in National Night Out need to register by July 10. National Night Out will be held in Durham and throughout the nation on August 4. The annual observance gives neighborhoods a chance to promote involvement in crime prevention activities as well as police and community partnerships.
