Police to Host Safety Information Fair July 18

The Durham Police Department (DPD) will host a Safety Information Fair on
Saturday, July 18, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of
its downtown/central district substation (516 Rigsbee Street). The event is
free and open to the public. Patrons of the nearby Durham Farmer’s Market
are encouraged to walk over one block to join in the safety fair activities.

DPD’s Safety Information Fair will feature crime prevention programs and
strategies; forensics insights; K9 appearances; police recruiting outreach;
motor and bike demonstrations; child safety seat awareness; and Durham
CrimeStoppers promotions.

Fair participants can also learn how to use Durham’s newly launched Open
Data Portal<http://durhamnc.gov/Pages/NNDetails.aspx?detailId=1119> and
DPD’s online crime mapping service, RaidsOnline<
http://www.raidsonline.com/?agency=Durham,NC>. Multimedia sessions will be
presented throughout the event in the substation conference room.

The event is a prelude activity to the department’s 2015 National Night Out<
https://natw.org/> observance. To date more than 60 Durham neighborhoods
and community groups have registered with the department to hold events as
part of America’s Night Out Against Crime<https://natw.org/about> on
Tuesday, August 5.  The deadline for DPD’s NNO registration is Friday, July
