Most City of Durham Offices Closed for Christmas & New Year Holidays
Durham Residents Are Asked to Take Note of Changes in Multiple City Services

DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and other non-emergency City operations, will be closed Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 9-1-1. Non-emergency problems or concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600. Residents are asked to take note of the following changes in other City services and programs.

Solid Waste, Recycling, Yard Waste, and Bulky Item Curbside Collections
The Solid Waste Management Department<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/918/Holiday-Schedule> will be closed on Friday, December 25. Regular Friday yard waste and bulky items collections will take place on Monday, December 28. The department will also be closed on Friday, January 1. Regular Friday yard waste and bulky items collections will take place on Monday, January 4.

Residents are reminded to place their carts at the curb by 7 a.m. the day of their scheduled collections and to return garbage, recycling, and yard waste containers back to their home, away from street, curb, and sidewalk. As traffic increases during the holiday season, motorists are also asked to be aware of collection crews working in neighborhoods and other high-traffic areas.

Residents are also encouraged to recycle<http://durhamnc.gov/862/Recycling> during the holiday season when the amounts of trash generated increases. Paper holiday waste, including wrapping paper (non-metallic only), cardboard boxes, and greeting cards may be placed in the blue recycling cart.

Curbside Christmas Tree Collection
The Solid Waste Management Department<http://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will collect Christmas trees from all solid waste customers from December 28 until February 6. Trees should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on residents' normal household garbage collection day. Residents are asked to leave the tree at the curb for one week before contacting Durham One Call<http://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> at (919) 560-1200 to report a missed tree collection. Trees taller than six feet should be cut in half. Residents should remove all decorations and hardware, including tinsel, lights, garland, ornaments, nails, and stands. Residents are also asked to not place trees in bags. Trees may also be dropped off at the City's Waste Disposal & Recycling Center<http://durhamnc.gov/878/Waste-Disposal-Recycling-Center> at 2115 E. Club Blvd., Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon at no charge until February 6. Customers are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing. Trees delivered after February 6 will be subject to the usual disposal fees.


Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and Household Hazardous Waste Center
The Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/898/Disposal-Facilities> will be closed on Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1.

Durham Parks and Recreation
Durham Parks and Recreation<http://durhamnc.gov/753/Parks-Recreation> will close all recreation centers at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23. DPR will close its administrative office, all recreation centers, and all indoor rental sites on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25. DPR's recreation centers, indoor pools, and programs will operate under their regular weekend schedules on Saturday, December 26 and Sunday, December 27. The administrative office will reopen under its normal schedule on Monday, December 28.

Recreation centers will also close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 31. The administrative office, all recreation centers, and all indoor rental sites will be closed on Friday, January 1. DPR's recreation centers, indoor pools, and programs will operate under their regular weekend schedules on Saturday, January 2 and Sunday, January 3. The administrative office will reopen under its normal schedule on Monday, January 4. GoDurham, Bull City Connector, and GoDurham ACCESS
GoDurham<http://godurhamtransit.org/> will operate will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  on Thursday, December 24 and  Thursday, December 31. GoDurham will not operate on Friday, December 25. On Friday, January 1, GoDurham will operate its Sunday service in which hourly service is provided from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1. Residents may complete an online service request<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/FormCenter/City-Managers-Office-15/Durham-One-Call-Online-Request-Form-64> or leave a message at (919) 560-1200. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day. For information about the City's holiday schedule and any other services that may be affected, contact Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
