City Council Approves Funding for Emergency Communications Improvements
Equipment improvements, led by the Durham Emergency Communication Center (DECC), will soon benefit the Durham County Office of the Sheriff<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160201/10889_MEMO_EMERGENCY_TELEPHONE_CONSO_382550_674940.PDF>. The City Council approved spending $66,000 a year for up to five years to install emergency communication equipment to enable the Sheriff's Office to receive number and location information on calls for law enforcement in Durham County, and to serve as a back-up for the DECC.

Businesses Needed to Host Youth Interns
The Durham YouthWork Internship Program is looking for businesses and organizations to provide work opportunities<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/8802> for youth interns between the ages of 14 and 24. The program will handle the review of applications, interviewing applicants, and recommending internship matches.


Registration Open for Jr. Fire Marshal Academy
Registration for the Jr. Fire Marshal Academy<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/8932> is now open to Durham youth ages 11 to 15, and will take place during Durham Public Schools' spring break. Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Edward Reid explains what program participants will do and how to register before the deadline.

City Administration Responds to Recommendations Regarding Racial Disparity Allegations
The City administration is responding to recommendations<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2016/cma20160215/10913_MEMO_RESPONSE_TO_HRC_RECOMMEND_383327_676263.PDF> regarding allegations of racial disparity in the Water Management Department. The Human Relations Commission made the recommendations after former employees alleged that there were racial inequities within the department.
