Durham Seeks Letters of Interest for Continuum of Care Grant Funds
Local Non-Profits Interested in Applying for Federal Funds to Prevent & End Homelessness Should Submit by June 27 Deadline

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham Community Development Department is seeking letters of interest from local non-profits and others interested in applying for nearly $1.5 million in federal Continuum of Care funds in 2016.

The objective of the Durham Continuum of Care Grant<http://www.durhamopeningdoors.org/tools-for-change/continuum-of-care/> competition is to fund housing projects that are aligned with federal guidelines and help meet the goals of preventing and ending chronic homelessness, veteran homelessness, and family and youth homelessness.

Funding for these projects is provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Continuum of Care (CoC) Homeless Assistance Grant Programs. Submission of a letter of interest does not constitute an application for CoC funding.

The Durham CoC anticipates that HUD will allow the Durham CoC to apply for as much as $1,477,597 in this competition. Projects that were awarded Continuum of Care grants in 2015, new projects designed to rapidly rehouse homeless people, and new projects designed to provide permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless people are encouraged to submit letters of interest and to plan to complete a full CoC grant application later this summer.

Eligible CoC applicants must be private nonprofit organizations, local public housing authorities, or units of local government. Letters of interest are due to the City's Community Development Department by 4 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016. Instructions for submitting a letter of interest are now available on the Durham Continuum of Care website<http://www.durhamopeningdoors.org/>.

For more information, contact Project Manager Lloyd Schmeidler with the City's Community Development Department at (919) 560-4570, extension 22267 or by email<mailto:durhamopendoors at durhamnc.gov>.
