Durham Seeks Organizations to Apply for Federal Grant Funds
Application Workshop December 6; Applications Due January 24

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham Community Development Department is inviting interested organizations to attend an application workshop next month to help them apply for soon-to-be-released federal grant funds.

On Tuesday, December 6, the department plans to release applications via ZoomGrants<http://durhamnc.gov/445/Community-Development> for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME)-Community Development Housing Organization (CHDO), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) Grant, and Dedicated Housing Funds (DHF) for the FY 2017-2018 period. The expected amount of federal funding to be available is as follows: $138,000 in CDBG, $240,000 in HOME-(CHDO), $160,000 in ESG, and $290,000 in HOPWA funds. Additionally, up to $200,000 in DHF are available for rapid re-housing activities.

To assist interested organizations in applying for these federal funds, the department is hosting an application process workshop on Tuesday, December 6 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the City's Community Development Department, located 807 E. Main St., Bldg. 2, Suite 200, Durham. The workshop is limited to no more than two representatives from each organization, and it is strongly suggested that one of those attending be from the organization's finance staff. Organizations who wish to attend should RSVP by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2.

All federal funds are provided to the City through annual entitlement grants administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The federal funds, and a portion of the DHF, will be distributed through this competitive application process. All activities and funding amounts for FY 2017-2018 are subject to competitive award, and applications requesting funding for activities not specified will be deemed ineligible. All applications must be submitted via ZoomGrants<http://durhamnc.gov/445/Community-Development> by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

To RSVP to attend the application workshop or for more information about the grant funds available, contact Federal Programs Coordinator Wilmur Conyers with the City's Community Development Department at (919) 560-4570, ext. 22277 or by email<mailto:wilmur.conyers at durhamnc.gov>.
