This is the first of a series of newsletters about Transformation Main -- the complete renovation of Main Library in Downtown Durham -- and contains important information about holds at Main. You are receiving it because you are a patron of Durham County Library. If you do not wish to continue to receive this newsletter, you can opt out using the link at the bottom of the email.

Dear DCL Patron,

Thanks to the passing of a bond referendum on November 8, 2016, Durham County Library's Main Library at 300 N. Roxboro Street in downtown Durham, is poised to undergo a major expansion and renovation. This much-needed transformation will provide additional space, updated facilities and enhanced technology to Main Library.

January 15, 2017 is the last day Main Library will be open to the public until the renovation is complete, which is expected to be in early 2019.

Highlights of the planned transformation include a comprehensive literacy and technology center, extensive program and collaboration areas, an outdoor public plaza for events and significant advances in energy efficiency as part of Durham County's sustainability initiative. More information as well as visual renderings of the new design are available online at durhamcountylibrary.org/transformationmain<http://4la.co/1AS6ZQ?SID=23262ae9-4875-421c-9557-91e196ff3184>.

To prepare for the closing of Main Library, patrons can no longer select Main Library as a hold pickup location. Patrons should select another DCL location at which to pick up their holds.

On January 6, any outstanding Main Library holds will be changed to another DCL location based on the patron's zip code. Any hold that displays in the patron's account as "In Transit" or "Ready for Pickup" at Main Library prior to January 6 will still have the full 7 day pick up availability at Main Library.

If patrons want to change their own pickup location, they can do so via the online catalog. Pickup locations cannot be changed if the hold is marked as "Ready for Pickup." To change a hold pickup location, patrons can log in to their online account at durhamcountylibrary.org/login<http://4la.co/1AS6ZR?SID=23262ae9-4875-421c-9557-91e196ff3184> and follow these steps:

  1. Click My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Holds tab.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the items that need their pickup location changed (or click the Select All checkbox to select all items in the hold list).
  4. Click Edit Pickup Location(s).
  5. In the window that appears, select the desired location from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Change.
  7. The Holds page will refresh and display the new pickup location.

Patrons with questions can contact any DCL location<http://4la.co/1AS6ZS?SID=23262ae9-4875-421c-9557-91e196ff3184> or complete the help form<http://4la.co/1AS6ZT?SID=23262ae9-4875-421c-9557-91e196ff3184> on the DCL website.
