East Main Street Waterline Replacement Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

June 15, 2017

Improvements to the City's waterline infrastructure will continue along the East Main Street corridor.  Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3001/East-Main-Street-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  *   Week of 6/19:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.
     *   Lane closures on Ramseur Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.
     *   Lane closures on Hood Street between East Main Street and Ramseur Street.
  *   Week of 6/26:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.
     *   Lane closures on Ramseur Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.

Saturday-Sunday June 17-18, 2017:

  *   No work is planned.

Week of June 19, 2017:

  *   Final waterline and service connections on East Main Street between Dillard and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Work includes final waterline connections at Commerce / East Main streets and Dillard / East Main streets.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at installation locations on East Main Street.
     *   Waterline service reconnections will be coordinated with affected parties at least seven days in advance of interruption.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Waterline and service installations along Ramseur Street between Hood and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at waterline crossing locations.
     *   Waterline service reconnections will be coordinated with affected parties at least seven days in advance of interruption.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

  *   Various sanitary sewer installations in Hood Street between Ramseur and East Main streets will continue.

     *   Lane shifts and local detours will be used to maintain traffic near installation areas.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Saturday-Sunday June 24-25, 2017:

  *   Final waterline and service connections on East Main Street between Dillard and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Work includes preparing for final waterline connections at Commerce / East Main streets and Dillard / East Main streets.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at installation locations on East Main Street.
     *   Waterline service reconnections will be coordinated with affected parties at least seven days in advance of interruption.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Week of June 26, 2017:

  *   Final waterline and service connections on East Main Street between Dillard and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Work includes final waterline connections at Commerce / East Main streets and Dillard / East Main streets.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at installation locations on East Main Street.
     *   Waterline service reconnections will be coordinated with affected parties at least seven days in advance of interruption.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Waterline and service installations along Ramseur Street between Hood and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at waterline crossing locations.

  *   Stormwater installation along Ramseur Street between Dillard and Hood streets will continue.
     *   Lane closures and detours will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations at Hood and S. Elizabeth streets.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Saturday-Sunday July 1-2, 2017:

  *   Final waterline and service connections on East Main Street between Dillard and Fayetteville streets will continue.
     *   Work includes preparing for final waterline connections at Commerce / East Main streets and Dillard / East Main streets.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at installation locations on East Main Street.
     *   Waterline service reconnections will be coordinated with affected parties at least seven days in advance of interruption.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Future Weeks:

  *   Restoration of sidewalks and other surfaces impacted by the project will continue.
  *   Stormwater improvements along Ramseur and East Main Street will continue.
  *   Pavement improvements in the intersection of Fayetteville / East Main street are anticipated to occur in late July.  An intersection closure with traffic detours is planned for approximately 4-5 days to complete the work.
  *   Work will exceed the current City noise ordinance.
