DURHAM, N.C. – Residents interested in discovering and protecting Durham’s local waterways should mark their calendars now to celebrate the 10th annual Creek Week<http://www.durhamcreekweek.org/> later this month.

Creek Week<http://www.durhamcreekweek.org/>, set for March 17-24, offers indoor and outdoor activities to help people of all ages and abilities learn more about creeks, rivers, and lakes and how to keep them healthy. Throughout the week residents will have a chance to join litter cleanups, become active creek monitors, go on a canoe adventure, learn from master naturalists, and enjoy family fun. Creek Week returns popular events like Frog Watch and canoe cleanups while hosting talks, trainings, and tours on a variety of water-related topics.

“Creek Week is a great community effort to highlight the ongoing need for safe places to swim, fish, play, and serve as drinking water sources,” said Laura Webb Smith, public education coordinator for the Stormwater and GIS Services Division of the City of Durham Public Works Department. “Educators, artists, neighborhood organizers, conservation professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts lead experiences that help us explore our connections to local waterways.”

To learn more about this community effort to provide opportunities for residents to discover and clean up local streams, visit the Creek Week website<http://www.durhamcreekweek.org/> or contact Smith at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30235 or by email<mailto:Laura.Smith at DurhamNC.gov>.
