Durham Moves Hillandale Road Bike & Pedestrian Facilities Meeting to New Location

Drop-In Style Meeting to Collect Resident Input on Preferred Alternative Design Plan



DURHAM, N.C. ¨C If you live, work, or travel along Hillandale Road in Durham, you¡¯ll want to mark your calendar for a meeting next week to review the preferred alternative for bicycle and pedestrian designs for this busy road.



The City of Durham Public Works Department has prepared the preferred alternative design for bicycle and pedestrian facilities<http://durhamnc.gov/3220/Design-Services-for-Hillandale-Rd-SW-46D> along Hillandale Road from I-85 to the NC Highway 147, and staff wants to share their work to date and get resident input.



In order to be more accessible for bicyclists, the drop-in style meeting has been moved from its previously announced location to E.K. Powe Elementary School Media Center<https://www.dpsnc.net/EK-Powe>, located at 913 9th Street, Durham. While the meeting date remains on Monday, June 18, the meeting time has also changed to now take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. due to school constraints.



Residents will be able to review the preferred alternative design, ask questions of Public Works staff, and provide input before the department completes the final design work. For residents who can¡¯t attend the June 18 meeting, maps and a comment form to collect their feedback are now available on the project website<http://durhamnc.gov/3220/Design-Services-for-Hillandale-Rd-SW-46D>.



This is a bicycle and pedestrian project only, so it will not include road widening to expand the traffic capacity or the intersections within this corridor. This is the second community meeting to collect resident input for this project. The first meeting was held in January 2018. Public Works staff plans to schedule a third community meeting in the future for this project after receiving input during this month¡¯s meeting, and completing a detailed design of the preferred option.
