Durham Reminds Yard Waste Customers of Proper Debris Disposal
for Curbside Collections

DURHAM, N.C. - Tropical Storm Michael brought gusty winds and heavy rains to Durham yesterday, leaving behind downed tree limbs, leaves, and other yard debris.

The City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department is reminding Yard Waste customers<https://durhamnc.gov/891/Yard-Waste> that they are entitled to receive two curbside collections of bulky brush as part of their annual curbside subscription service. Individual limbs and branches should be no longer than 4 feet and no larger than 4 inches in diameter. Material should be placed at the curb for collection on their regularly scheduled yard waste collection day. No personal carts or containers will be serviced, and customers should not use their garbage or recycling carts for storm debris. Leaves must be bagged in biodegradable paper since plastic bags are not acceptable.

Any city resident, including Yard Waste customers, may also bring their storm debris to the City's Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, located at 2115 E. Club Blvd. The disposal rate is $26.50 per ton for larger loads; a flat rate of $1.00 per load for residential cars; and a flat rate of up to $9.00 for larger residential vehicles (pickup trucks, SUV's, etc.) Loads must be covered. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

City residents who are not Yard Waste customers must make private arrangements for debris disposal from their property. For more information about the City's Yard Waste program, including how to become a customer, visit the City's Solid Waste Management Department web page<https://durhamnc.gov/891/Yard-Waste> or contact Durham One Call<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> at (919) 560-1200.
