Durham Offers Small Business Certification Seminar

What: Do I Need to Get Certified?


Who: City of Durham Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department

When: Thursday, February 28, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: City Hall Council Chambers, 101 City Hall Plaza, First Floor, Durham, N.C. 27701

Fast Facts:

*        Find out about the various minority, women, and small business certification programs now available. Representatives from the North Carolina Department of Administration's Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses, North Carolina Department of Transportation's Office of Civil Rights, City of Durham, and Durham County will discuss their certification processes.



*        Attendees will learn about the eligibility requirements for certification with each of these state and local government organizations, discuss strategies to leverage certification, and how to increase exposure in diverse markets. An opportunity for networking will follow the seminar.

About the Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department
The City of Durham Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department<https://durhamnc.gov/606/Equal-Opportunity-Equity-Assurance> (EO/EA) is responsible for the implementation of the City's Equal Business Opportunity Program. Responsibilities include implementation of race and gender neutral measures to facilitate the participation of Underutilized Business Enterprises (UBEs) in contracting activity with the City. The department also administers the Small Local Business Enterprise Program (SLBE) which works to increase employment opportunities for residents through recruitment, certification, and maintenance of the SLBE data bank, business development, City project compliance, monitoring, and reporting. Guided by the City's Strategic Plan<https://durhamnc.gov/183/Strategic-Plan>, the department ensures that its services support making Durham a great place to live, work, and play by focusing on a strong and diverse economy, assuring that City efforts are innovative and high-performing, and supporting the stewardship of the City's physical and environmental assets.
