I wanted to share information about the Ohio AAP’s Annual Meeting, which is coming up on October 27-28 that has educational opportunities on some hot topics! All health care providers are welcome!

Opiate Crisis: Most of you are aware of the opiate crisis in Ohio. During a special panel discussion at the 2017 Ohio AAP Annual Meeting on October 27-28, a panel of experts will share their knowledge on NAS and opioid abuse: manifestations, complications, prevention, rehabilitation and relapse.

Advocacy: Pediatricians and other health care providers have played an important role in speaking out for children, promoting the health and well-being of all children, and addressing the challenges that many children and families face. The Keynote Address at this year’s Annual Meeting is about learning how to advocate for the AAP child health agenda items that include healthy children, secure families, strong communities and a leading nation! Learn how health care reform can impact your practice and families.

MOC Part II: Recently, the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) expanded options to receive lifelong learning and self-assessment (Part 2 II) points for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) by participating in continuing medical education (CME) activities that meet certain evaluation and passing standards. This new format provides more variety in the types of activities that provide MOC Part II credit, but may place a burden on pediatricians as the amount of time required to earn points will likely increase.

Fortunately, the Ohio AAP has 10 activities that have been approved for 10 or 20 points, and can be completed in as little as 1 or 2 hours, respectively. These point values have been grandfathered by the ABP as they were approved before the January 1, 2017 transition. No additional activities are being approved at these point values, making the Ohio AAP’s library of activities a valuable return on time invested for participants! Be sure to register for the 2017 Annual Meeting to earn up to 40 points on MOC Part II during the conference on the following topics before they expire:

  *   Child Abuse and Neglect
  * Injury Prevention: Birth to 4 and Adolescent
  * Obesity Prevention in Primary Care
  * Mental Health Issues: Early Identification and Intervention

We hope to see you there!
