Subject: MAY 14TH MEETING

Hello Everyone,

Our next MCIC Safety Committee meeting is coming up week after next,
Wednesday, May 14th 2008 at the MCIC Offices.

We do not have a speaker or a single topic of interest lined up for this
one, but there have been a number of your responses suggesting best
practice sharing topics so I have decided to dedicate this meeting to
just that. They are listed below. It would be great if you could make
the meeting and share with the group about your experiences and
practices, good and bad, on any one or more of these topics, and to hear
what others are doing. Please come, and please take the time to gather
your thoughts and ideas on the following before the meeting. If
possible, come prepared with handout material that might help others in
these areas. We will still have an open round-table so these topics are
not the only thing on the table. If you want another topic added to this
prep list let me know.

Best Practice Share Topics for May 14th meeting:

* Formal Safety auditing - how are people doing audits -
checklists, focus topics, behavior based, just walking around? Who does
their audits? How do they track findings? What novel approaches has
anyone found to keep the audits fresh? Is anyone doing auditor training
to teach people how to audit?

* Metrics - what safety metrics are people tracking and reporting?
Has anyone found anything creative that helped?

* Safety recognition - what are sites doing for safety
recognition? Does anyone have something novel that their employees
really appreciated?

*       Nanotechnology

* Web Based Safety and health Training Programs

* Training software (for documenting and tracking purposes)

* Aging workforce relative to occupational medicine and/or
ergonomics. Do you feel this is a current or coming issue? Are you doing
anything to help aging workers stay productive and safe longer?

* Worker judgment, competency, accountability. Smart and
experienced workers make poor judgments. Are you doing anything to help
workers maintain proper focus and minimize these errors?

* Discipline. With the emphasis on behavior safety there may be a
hesitance to use discipline, but it is always a necessary part of a
safety program. When is discipline applied and how?

*       Challenges with a non-English speaking workforce

* Post or pre-hire screening for physical abilities (lifting,
range of motion, wrist/arm use.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Please put the next two meeting dates on your
calendar if you haven't already

* Thursday, August 21, annual joint MCIC committees meet to
discuss priorities and objectives for 2009

* Wednesday, November 19th, topic TBD

Thanks!!
