What's your favorite data rescue effort? I've heard stories of rare photos and logs being hauled by dog sled… of an obscure but critical tape reader being found in a McDonalds basement just before it was destroyed… of wacky, home-baked solutions to reading old media… of heroic efforts to save a physical specimen from fire or flood…. What's your favorite story? Who are the unsung heroes?
In case you missed it. There is $5000 prize being offered for a great geoscience data rescue effort. Do you know of such an effort? Nominate the heroes at http://researchdata.elsevier.com/datachallenge Deadline extended to 31 October. Prize to be awarded at AGU.
cheers,
-m.
