out recently regarding the upcoming crowdsourcing event at ESIP Summer
(https://2017esipsummermeeting.sched.com/event/As6k/data-management-training
-clearinghouse-roundup) that is scheduled for Friday, July 28th, 9:30 am
CDT, with remote access if you cannot make it in person. Also, just in!
There will be a similar session at the DataONE Users Group meeting on
Monday, July 24th, time TBD, and possibly, remote access to that as well
(also TBD). Please forward this info to colleagues and friends who might be
interested in participating.

Subject: Request for data management training materials to add to the DMT
Clearinghouse
Hello, ESIP all!
The newly formalized Data Management Training (DMT) Working Group is
organizing a DMT Clearinghouse Roundup -- a working session at the ESIP
Summer Meeting to accomplish three goals:
(1) Discuss the selection criteria for identifying and including educational
resources into the recently launched Data Management Training (DMT)
Clearinghouse, and the uses to which the educational resources could be /
have been targeted;
(2) Using the selection criteria, add to the compilation of educational
resources in the Data Management Training (DMT) Clearinghouse;
(2) Record user feedback for the following features from the DMT
Clearinghouse:
. The submission form
. The help guides/documentation for submitting educational resources
. Search and browse the existing inventory of resources.
Organizers will bring suggestions for educational resources to add to the
DMT Clearinghouse, but are also seeking new sources of training materials.
You can prepare for the session ahead of time by bringing information about
any educational resources that you think would be useful to researchers and
data professionals. If you can't attend, you can either send key information
to organizers, or add to a google drive spreadsheet (coming soon!) that you
or others can submit later. For ideas about what to submit, check out
what's already in the DMT Clearinghouse at:
<http://dmtclearinghouse.esipfed.org> http://dmtclearinghouse.esipfed.org.
Also see a description below.
At the session, we will work with the attendees to review the suggested
resources, submit those appropriate for the Clearinghouse, and allot time to
look for other resources to add to our list of resources to submit. You can
participate in the session by showing up and joining the fun face to face,
or by remote access on Friday, July 28th, 9:30 am - 11 am, CDT / GMT-5. As
there is a limit to the number of people who can attend remotely, if you do
wish to attend this session remotely, please let us know that you will be
attending on the ESIP Sched app or at:

out closer to the event. For questions, please contact either Nancy

**********************
The kind of educational resources we're looking for could be delivered
online, face to face, or using a combination of both techniques. Examples
of possible resources include: remote access tutorials, webinars, videos,
audio presentations, exercises or training activities such as specific
examples of data use or so-called data "recipes" that could be used to
supplement other educational resources, syllabi, lesson plans, teacher
guides, related tool training guides (e.g., for DMPTool), etc. All
resources should provide instruction directed to researchers and/or data
professionals who wish to train themselves or others on best practices
related to the management of research data including but not limited to
Earth science data. In terms of audience, generally, we are looking for
resources that would offer instruction to upper level scientists of all
types, undergrads / early grad students, post-docs and early career
scientists, data professionals such as data managers and data librarians,
and citizen scientists.
Regards,
Nancy
