[Esip-preserve] Letter of Invitation to Sign the Enabling FAIR Data Commitment Statement

Enabling FAIR Data Stakeholders,


We invite you to review the Enabling FAIR Data Commitment Statement<http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/commitment-to-enabling-fair-data-in-the-earth-space-and-environmental-sciences/> and become a signatory.


Built by a coalition of community leaders from across the research landscape, this Commitment Statement codifies the goals of the Enabling FAIR Data project<http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/> in the Earth, space, and environmental sciences to advance a common interest in open science.  The Commitment Statement advances the community towards ensuring that research outputs, including data, software, physical samples and standard information about them, are open, FAIR, and curated in community-approved, FAIR-aligned repositories whenever possible and that other links and information related to scholarly publications follow leading practices for transparency and information. We are encouraging you to sign the Statement, signifying your commitment to this important endeavor towards a more open, FAIR research environment.

This Commitment Statement<http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/commitment-to-enabling-fair-data-in-the-earth-space-and-environmental-sciences/> is aspirational in nature, with the understanding that as you sign you are committing to develop a plan that will address any gaps you or your organization has with the elements of the commitment. We are asking our signatories to give the plan priority such that completion will be within a year of signing, but understanding that each organization will have its own timeline and may need an extended period.
