Session ID: 120797
Session Title: Adopting Principles to Enhance Capabilities for Using Earth Science Data
Session Description:
Principles offer recommendations for data centers, archives, and repositories to improve infrastructure for scientific data stewardship, curation and sharing. They inspire practices that facilitate data reuse by diverse users across various disciplines. FAIR Principles guide findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability efforts. CARE Principles advocate Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics. TRUST Principles prescribe Transparency, Responsibility, User focus, Sustainability, and Technology. Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Data Sharing Principles recommend open data by default with minimal restrictions or time delays. GEOSS Data Management Principles advocate discoverability, accessibility, usability, preservation, and curation. Instruments, like CoreTrustSeal requirements and ISO 19163 (Trusted Digital Repository Checklist), address such principles by offering benchmarks for improving repositories through self-assessment or certification. Other principles, standards, and practices also contribute to improving capabilities for reusing data. Session presentations describe how adoption of such capabilities enable, facilitate and/or enhance use of Earth science data.
