[esip-semantictech] Augmenting SWEET

Line,
I would suggest Simon Cox’s Geologic time work: https://github.com/dr-shorthair/GeologicTimeScale which is aligned with OWL Time (he was an editor)
He already has links to the SWEET URI’s in there (the NASA ones) but I was just in Australia and talked with him about this migration issue with the URIs.
I know several people interested in some work in Geologic time in the more shallow time area.
Lewis, I can start on issue around people who might be interested in helping in the area of Geologic time. I know myself and two others who I suspect would join in such a group. Is that how we are to do this, via issues at the github repo? I’ll look into it.
Doug

Hi Lewis:
I really like your approach to continuing development of SWEET. There was a lot of “foundational” ontology work done in the past for several of the topics, such as Time. Units of measure, space, provenance, quality are areas that come to mind with existing ontologies. If I may make a suggestion, it might be worth exploring bridges between SWEET and those others.

Hi Lewis,
Your topic lists are good. For your Faceted Topic “Time,” I suggest you make use of the excellent W3C draft standard “Time Ontology in OWL” found here http://www.w3.org/TR/owl-time/. It is comprehensive with regard to date and time, and even includes Geologic Timescale (from looking at it, I now know how the Mesozoic Era relates to the Jurassic Period, lol). See below.
Have you decided how you will incorporate existing ontologies, such as this one for Time, with SWEET?
Cheers,
Mike

* Data (provenance, formats, modeling, products, services, analysis, geospatial, reduction, validation, processing)
Faceted Topics
* Living Substances
* Non-Living Substances
* Physical Processes (microscale)
* Earth Realm
* Physical Properties (observation)
* Space

The announcement looks great to me. One comment/question: would it be possible to include short description of what these topics cover? For instance, the topic of "data" could be quite broad, and it might be helpful to explain what sort of expertise you're looking for with it (data curation? data formats? etc). Or is there some further description of the topics to link to?

ACK, thanks Tom. I’ve augment the To: field in the draft announcement.
Any feedback on the announcement folks?
Once we are happy, we can contact Bruce and have him include it in the Monday newsletter.

I’d suggest you post to both esip-all email list and esip-all Slack channel. The Slack group seems to be picking up new members all the time. Might be some folks who aren’t on the email list.

Hi Folks,
As discussed at today’s meeting, I began working on the following DRAFT announcement which I propose we send (once finished and we are happy with) out to esip-all@ and have posted within Bruce’s Monday announcement’s.
Please check it out and edit as you see fit, all contributions welcome.

Does anyone have any other platforms/distribution/communication channels they think we should send this to? I suggest that each of the individuals mentioned within the Collaboration Area Plan also take it upon themselves to post the announcement to their respective communities. This way we get good coverage for the Committee announcement.
Thank you
Lewis
