Excellent Ming. In case I miss the details, can I please ask for Fotis to cross post the virtual meeting details to the esip-semanticweb@ mailing list.
This is very positive news, thank you for writing it up.

Hi Lewis,

Thanks for reaching out to the RDA Data Discovery Interest Group. We are aware the geosci.schema.org<http://geosci.schema.org>
effort at the ESIP Semantic Web cluster through Douglas Fils and Beth Huffer. I just signed up to the cluster's
mailing list and am actually about to contact you.

Last year, we organised two virtual meetings and a workshop at the RDA P12 toward the effort "Using
schema.org<http://schema.org> and enriched metadata to enable/boost FAIRness on research resources".
Yes, you are quite right that the objectives<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cuxZGfL0I7dCu8sGcFzlVAKPddggKkbxtcrT7FZgr-I/edit#heading=h.5fd2hlf5gdq1> we identified from the discussions are similar to yours, although we
aim to be discipline-agnostic.

At the moment, we are working on a survey instrument for collecting current practices on schemas.
The survey would help us to achieve the Objective #3 and partially the Objective #2. We are conducting
dry run this week, will iterate the survey instrument by accommodating feedback from dry run next week. We
aim to socialise the survey and invite people to participate in less then 2 weeks.

While we are waiting for people fill in the survey, there is no reason why we could not have a look of
those extensions we have already known such as geosci.schema.org<http://geosci.schema.org> and bioschemas (and crosswalks as well such DCAT to schema.org<http://schema.org>). Your guidance documents (especially data model and repository model) provide an excellent start for us. Fotis will organise a virtual meeting that is about in two weeks time. We can discuss how we can collaborate and proceed this activity.

BTW, we will have a BoF session<https://www.rd-alliance.org/bof-using-schemaorg-and-enriched-metadata-enableboost-fairness-research-resources-rda-13th-plenary> about schemas and a group session at the RDA P13. Hope you and member of the two groups will join us.

Kind regards,
Ming

Hi datadiscovery@ and esip-semanticweb@ mailing lists,
Over on the ESIP side a number of community members have been making progress on the development of a geosci.schema.org<http://geosci.schema.org> extension to schema.org<http://schema.org> which is intended to adequately describe both science Data Repositories and Datasets. This grew out of the P418 NSF EarthCube project [0] and is now being developed at [1].
At the ESIP Winter Meeting in early January, members discussed our strategy for community growth and subsequent development efforts aimed at advancing the geosci.schema.org<http://geosci.schema.org> extension. We are very keen to involve the RDA Data Discovery community in this process and would very much value community review of the content at [1].
We understand that the RDA Data Discovery strategy as outlined by Fotis a few months back is very much aligned with the geosci.schema.org<http://geosci.schema.org> effort so we hope progressing the issue will be mutually beneficial for both our communities.
Right now, the most important thing is that we can initiate more sincere community review of the guidelines available at [1]. If RDA Data Discovery is able to aid in that process it would be excellent.
Thanks
Lewis
