STRINGS ATTACHED PRESENTS Jeff Black in Concert
St. Philip's Parish Hall in Downtown Durham
Strings Attached presents Jeff Black in a benefit performance for Urban
Ministries of Durham, Friday, March 11 at 7 PM, in the St. Philip's
Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Jeff Black has long been recognized as a
soulful songwriter, and in Nashville, a town where co-writing is the
norm, Black writes alone. The words and music to his rough and tumble
songs read like a delicate and personal journal from a well-traveled
soul. His songs have been covered by artists from all different genres of
music, from the legendary Waylon Jennings, to other artists such as the
acoustic/bluegrass virtuoso Sam Bush. Although, most known for his
writing, Black has always considered himself a performer first and
foremost. The gifted multi-instrumentalist says he is most gratified by
the creative exchange that takes place when he plays in front of a live
audience. Not surprisingly, as it is when one does what one truly loves
to do, it was his passion for performing that unearthed an equal passion
to write, and to write songs that make a lasting contribution. "I started
playing my songs around my hometown and after awhile, more and more
people started showing up. They were really listening, so I figured I had
better have something to say," Black explains. Black comes from a long
line of farmers and truck drivers who could turn an emotion into a story
to be passed along. Raised by the generation that lost the farm, won the
war and moved to town, Black's colorful and personal insights become
music that you can come back to again and again. Likened to rockers Neil
Young and Bruce Springsteen and often compared to troubadour poets like
Harry Chapin and Steve Goodman, Jeff's songs reside just outside the
realm of pop music today. He has captivated audiences all over the world
with his stories and inimitable delivery.
Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Monday, February 7.
