Dear Friend of those in need,
Greetings on this sunny, but cool day in Durham, NC!

I am writing to announce an important opportunity to double the
effectiveness of your donations to Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD).

UMD has received a $25,000 challenge grant for monetary gifts from
new and lapsed donors made in March and April of 2005.

That means that, if you have never made a financial donation or have
not made a monetary contribution since June 30, 2004, any monetary gift you
make in these months will qualify for this matching grant! So now is a great
time to renew your support of these ministries to homeless, hungry, and low
income people in Durham.

Your gift is very important to us, as we need to raise $25,000 in
contributions from new and lapsed donors to receive any of the $25,000!

You can help us reach our goal by doing any of a number of things:

1. Obviously, :-) make a financial contribution of whatever amount you
are moved to make! Donations may be made online through the Network for Good
link at www.umdurham.org or sent directly to "UMD, P.O. Box 249, Durham, NC
27702."

2. Challenge/invite/ask/beg/request/cajole, etc. :-) others to match
your gift or to make their own gift of whatever amount they choose! You can
do this by:
a. forwarding this message to others with your own personal pledge of
support.
b. If you have a birthday or anniversary in March and April, consider
requesting that gifts be made in your honor to UMD.
c. Having a springtime party with a "cover charge" of $5 or $10 with
the "cover charge" being donated to UMD.

3. Plan to attend the Jeff Black UMD benefit concert at St. Philip's
Episcopal Church on Friday, March 11, at 7 PM. Visit www.jeffblack.com to
learn more about this "soulful songwriter" from Nashville, TN or call
682-5708 x. 17 for more information.

4. Plan to walk/run on UMD's behalf in the 5 kilometer "Great Human
Race" in Durham on April 9 and get friends and family to make a donation in
support of your participation. Contact Donna Smith, our Development
Director, dsmith at umdurham.org, or 682-0538, x. 25 for a sponsor envelope.

5. Plan to shop at Whole Foods Grocery on Broad St. in Durham on
Tuesday, April 26. On that day, Whole Foods will donate five percent (5%) of
the day's gross receipts to UMD, and this amount will qualify for our $25K
challenge!

Thanks for your consideration and support of those most in need among us!

Sincerely,
Lloyd Schmeidler, Executive Director
