*Take a WALKABILITY SURVEY and contribute to the DurhamWalks Pedestrian Plan*

Over the next year, the City of Durham will be preparing a citywide
pedestrian plan - a guide to help make it better, easier and safer for you
to walk.  The plan will create a 100% inventory of current walkways,
develop new policies to encourage more consideration of pedestrians in
development practices, identify major issues and needs, and serve to
direct the City’s limited resources towards the places that need them the
most now and in the future.  The plan will help Durham implement safe,
high-quality improvements to our walking environment – and that’s good for
our children, mobility-impaired citizens, businesses, and our air
quality.

Citizens are invited to attend *public workshops* on the following dates,
to learn about the plan and take a Walkability Survey.  Presentations will
be given at the top of each hour (i.e. 5pm, 6pm, 7pm) during these
‘drop-in’ style sessions:
Wednesday, July 20: 5-8pm @ C.C. Spalding Elementary, Cafeteria (PAC
District 4)
Thursday, July 21: 5-8pm @ Southwest Elementary, Cafeteria (PAC District 3)

The *Durham Walkability Survey* is another way that you can participate in
shaping the Plan.  The survey will help identify problem areas for
pedestrians and contribute to a prioritization of projects throughout the
City.  If you can’t make it to a workshop, you are encouraged to take a
moment to fill out the survey at
http://www.keysurvey.com/survey/52061/4d6e/.  It only takes a few minutes,
but it means a lot!
