Dear all,

I can also vouch for Kevin and Rebuilding Together of the Triangle. Kevin is a former volunteer of Friends of Triangle Seniors and Food Assistance (FTSFA) - http://www.ftsfa.org - the non-profit that I founded back in 2003 which assists senior citizens with a variety of free services (home repair happens to be one of them) as well as provide food assistance to the needy of the Triangle 3 different ways.

When Kevin volunteered with us in the summer of 2004, he created a partnership between FTSFA and New Hope Church (Chapel Hill, NC) where together, we did an extreme homemakeover of a home in Orange County. Kevin filmed the extreme homemakeover and created a TV program called Homes of Hope that highlighted FTSFA and New Hope Church. The show, which began showing on Channel 8 (The People's Channel) in January 2005 on the Durham/Chapel Hill Time Warner Cable System, won the 2005 Burke Award for the Best Spiritual Program.

This past August 2005, FTSFA, New Hope Church, and Rebuilding Together of the Triangle partnered again to do a second extreme homemakeover for a senior citizens home in Orange County. Kevin has also filmed that extreme homemakeover and will create the 2nd Home of Hope Show, which should on TV sometime soon.

FTSFA and Rebuilding Together of the Triangle will continue to be partners to provide safe, clean, and weatherized homes for Triangle Seniors and other Triangle Residents. I urge you get involved with both organizations to help our fellow man (and woman).

  All,

Kevin Polk (Rebuilding Together) was at last Tuesdays Campaign for Decent Housing and impressed us with some of the work they've done already in Durham.

This is a legitimate organization that is working with a honest and hard working non-profit (Campaign for Decent Housing) and other groups like SWOOP to make a positive change in Durham.

If you're looking to help or contribute to Katrina victims and assist in making Durham's housing stock better, please consider volunteering!

  Mike Shiflett

ps- please feel free to forward

Rebuilding Together of the Triangle is seeking volunteers and donations to help repair homes in Durham that will be used for long-term transitional housing for relocated survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

Part of a nationwide campaign by the country's largest non-profit volunteer home rehabilitation agency to help rebuild communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina, the local Rebuilding Together affiliate will partner with Durham Affordable Housing Coalition to work first on helping ready long-term housing for those displaced by the disaster, according to Executive Director Kevin Polk.

Rebuilding Together will be scheduling volunteer work days beginning Saturday, September 24th and continuing as needed until all relocated families have been resettled in long-term housing. The work will range from making light repairs to interior painting to yard work, with the potential for heavier rehabilitation work depending on the condition of the buildings to be used.

To volunteer to ready homes for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina contact Rebuilding Together at (919) 345-8516.
